About
Perfumotherapy was founded by Creezy Courtoy in 1998 to preserve our health and find new therapies for chronic diseases. Anthropologist and Perfume Historian, Founder and Chair of the International Perfume Foundation (IPF), Creezy Courtoy is leading IPF research to develop better understanding of the resonance of plant’s DNA with human DNA leading to DNA reprogramming via epigenetic information.
After creating the international Perfume foundation in 1995 when she realised that perfume was not perfume anymore, that perfume was not the soul of flowers, the bark of trees, resins but was completely synthetic, she started researching about the history of perfume, the importance of olfaction and the benefiting power of plants and flowers for human health.
The concept and word Perfumotherapy (Parfumothérapie) was developed by Creezy Courtoy when she recognized the need to create a method to make us more sensitive and conscious of our olfactory sense: something we could use to smell and feel better as a result. Perfumotherapy follows the science which allows therapeutic properties of plants and flowers to be introduced by olfaction.

In the ancient world, men used perfumes and scents to protect their health and they knew the real meaning of perfume. It was made with plants and flowers. They knew the properties of each plant and their therapeutic power.
Ancient Egyptians said: “Who breathes the smells of flowers, breathes the soul of flowers.”
A Chinese proverb says "A perfume is always a medicine" and the "The Book of Medicine" includes hundreds of perfume compositions used in healthcare. Therapeutic qualities of perfume depends on perfume content.
Since ancient times, in every region of the world, people have been using plants for therapy. They added plants to their food and drink, they used plants to make perfumes and cosmetics knowing the beneficial effects of each of them. This precious and ancestral knowledge has been transmitted from generation to generation.
We can find it already in cuneiform writings on Sumerian tablets around 1700BC.
Prescriptions were found in the “Ebers Papyrus” dated 1552 BC, in Dioscoride’s “Materia Medica” dated 78 AC, in the ”Codex Aniciae Julianae” dated 512 AC, and later in Paracelse and Leonard Fuchs works (XVIth century).

Regarding Perfumotherapy and the EU Cosmetic Directive As Natural Perfumes are not put on the skin, they are not Cosmetics, they should be removed from the Cosmetic Directive. This will allow: - Natural Perfumers to have their own Perfume Directive. - Perfume to protect its Heritage while protecting consumer's health. - The development of a new economy giving work to millions people worldwide while replanting flowers and plants. - To recreate bees and other pollinators habitats - To solve part of the major global challenges of the 21st Century. |
